A mantra is also chanted while tying Kalava –
Yen badho bali king, danvendro mahabalah, ten tvam committnami raksha machal machal:.
The meaning of this mantra is generally taken that I bind you to the great mighty king of demons, Bali, to whom he was tied. O Rakshasa! (Rakshasutra) You are not moving, you are not moving. According to the scholars of Dharmashastra, this means that while tying the thread of protection, the Brahmin or the priest tells his host that the Rakshasutra by which the mighty kings of the demons were tied in the bond of sacrifice, that is, were used in religion, by the same thread I I bind you, that is, I commit you to religion. After this, the priest tells the Rakshasa Sutra that O Rakshasa, you remain stable, remain stable. In this way the purpose of the Raksha Sutra is to inspire and use the Brahmins for religion to their hosts.
