Origin story of Maheshwari Samaj
According to religious texts, the ancestors of Maheshwari society belonged to the Kshatriya dynasty. During the hunt, he was afflicted by the curse of the sages. Then on this day Lord Shiva saved his ancestors by freeing them from the curse and told them the path of non-violence by leaving violence.
The Suryavanshi king Khadgal Sen reigned in Khandela city, who was a devout and a lover of religion. In his kingdom all the subjects lived happily and peacefully. The king did not have any son, so the king performed Putresti Yagya. The sages blessed and warned that your son will be very mighty and Chakravarti, but do not let him go towards the north till the age of 16, otherwise you will die prematurely.
After some time, the son of Queen Champavati was born, the king celebrated the son's birth festival with great gaiety. Astrologers named him Sujansen. He turned out to be very intelligent and intelligent. And at that time Sujansen was married to Chandravati.
One day Rajkuvar Sujansen went to the forest in the north direction to hunt stubbornly with 72 Umravas. 6 Rishis were performing Yagya near Surya Kund, Vedas were uttering sound, seeing this, he became furious. He ordered the Umrao to destroy the yagya. Due to this the sage also got angry and he cursed them all to turn into stone. As soon as the curse was given, 72 Umrao including Rajkuvar became a stone. When Raja Khadgal Sen heard this news, he gave up his life.
Rajkuvar's queen Chandravati took the women of 72 Umrao's along with them and went to the shelter of those sages and requested to take back the curse. Then the sages asked him to go to a nearby cave and worship Lord Gorishankar while chanting the Ashtakshar mantra of Lord Mahesh "Om Namo Maheshwarai". the princess with all the women She went to fufa and got absorbed in penance.
Pleased with her penance, Lord Mahesh came there with Mother Parvati, then Rajkuvarani bowed at the feet of Parvati. Mother Parvati blessed her to be 'good luck', on this the princess said that our husbands have become stoned by the curse of the sages, so you redeem their curse. Goddess Maheshwari prayed to Lord Mahesh, and the Lord brought her to consciousness.
Why is it called Maheshwari Samaj?
On the day of Jyeshtha Shukla Navami, Lord Mahesh and Adishakti Mata Parvati freed 72 Kshatriya Umras who were made of stone due to the curse of the sages. As soon as he came into consciousness, everyone worshiped Mahesh-Parvati and apologized for their crime. On this Lord Mahesh said that you have misused your powers for the sake of your Kshatriyatva. You have committed the sin of obstructing the Yagya, to atone for it, take your weapons and take a bath in Suryakund. As soon as this was done, the weapons of all the Umraons got lost in the water. From that day onwards the place became famous as Loha Gal (Lohagar) (near Sikar, Rajasthan).
After taking bath, Lord Mahesh told everyone that by taking a bath in Suryakund, all your sins have been atonemented and your Kshatriyatva and previous karma have also been destroyed. This is your new life, so now your new lineage will run. Our mark will remain on your lineage (Dharma) i.e. you will be called "Maheshwari" by lineage (Dharma) and Vaishya by Varna. You will be treated like our (Mahesh-Parvati) children. You will possess divine qualities.
Then the sages came and favored God that Lord, they destroyed our yagya and you freed them from the curse. On this Lord Mahesh said – From today you are their (Maheswari's) guru. They will consider you as their guru, and you will be known as 'GuruMaharaj'.
Then Lord Mahesh told Sujan Kuwar that you keep their lineage, they will consider you as their own. You will keep the information of their lineage, help in establishing marriage relations and they will help you all the time by giving as much money as you can.
According to Hindu religious texts, the 72 Umrao who were named after them, each caste was formed which was called 72 Khap (Gotra). Then each khap got many nails which have become the names of villages and elders due to work. This is how Maheshwari Samaj got its name. The 72 surnames or gotras of Maheshwari society are also related to this context.
Mahadev also gave his name to this society by his grace, hence this community became famous by the name Maheshwari. It is only by the order of Lord Shiva that the ancestors of Maheshwari society left Kshatriya and adopted Vaishya society, since then Maheshwari society is recognized as a business community.
Religious and Social Significance of Mahesh Navami
Lord Shankar ordered the Kshatriya Rajputs to give up hunting and take up trade or Vaishya deeds. That is, except violence, he told the path of action with non-violence.
