Manan Karne Yogya Katha Raja Dilip The story of cow devotee Rajarshi Dilip:

In the scriptures, the king is considered to be the embodiment of God. A king is considered superior to an ordinary person, even among the kings, the Chakravarti Emperor of Saptadweepvati Earth is considered even more superior. Similarly, the only emperor of the earth, Suryavanshi Rajarshi Dilip, was a great cow devotee.

There was friendship between Maharaj Dilip and Devraj Indra

There was friendship between Maharaj Dilip and Devraj Indra. Dilip once went to heaven on Devraj's call. Devraj sought help from Maharaj Dilip in the battle between Dev and Asur. King Dilip agreed to help and the war between gods and demons took place.

After the end of the war, while returning from heaven, Kamdhenu met Surabhi on the way, but Dilip did not see her due to his eagerness to come to earth. He did not pay obeisance to Kamdhenu Surbhi, nor did he do circumambulation.

Angered by this insult, Kamdhenu Surbhi cursed – If my child (Nandini) does not show mercy, he will remain sonless.

Maharaj Dilip had no idea about the curse. But due to his not having any son, he himself, the queen, and the people remained worried and sad. With the wish to have a son, Maharaj Dilip along with the queen reached the ashram of Vice Chancellor Maharishi Vashishtha.

Maharishi understood everything. Maharishi said that this is the result of the sin of insulting mother cows. "Nandini Cow", daughter of "Surbhi Gaumata" sits at our ashram. Maharishi ordered – Stay in the ashram for some time and serve my Kamadhenu Nandini.

Maharaj accepted the Guru's orders. Queen Sudakshina used to worship that mother cow very well in the morning. After performing the Aarti, she would send Nandini off to graze in the forest under the protection of her husband. The emperor followed him like a shadow throughout the day, stopping when he stopped, walking when he walked, sitting when he sat, and drinking water when he drank water.

In the evening, when Nandini, a pregnant woman (with a small suckling calf) would return to the ashram in front of the emperor, Queen Goddess Sudakshina would take Akshat-vessel in her hand, circumambulate him and pay obeisance to him and pray for the birth of a son from Akshat etc. She would worship Nandini as the one who grants success.

After milking their calf as per their wish, the couple would again look after Nandini during the night, satisfy it by feeding it soft green grass with their own hands, and go to sleep after it rests. Twenty-one days passed in this way taking care of him.

One day, while courting Nandini in the forest, Maharaj Dilip's vision got stuck for a moment in the natural beauty of the forest when he heard Nandini's cry.

She was writhing trapped in the claws of a fierce lion. He tried to take out an arrow from his quiver to kill the aggressive lion, but his hand became motionless and got stuck there, he remained standing there with a drawing and started writhing within,

Then the lion spoke in a human voice – King! Your efforts to prepare your weapons are useless in the same way as Prabhanjana, which uproots trees, and becomes useless when it collides with a mountain. I am Kumbhodar, a friend of Lord Shiva's Gana Nikumbh.

Lord Shiva has given me the responsibility of protecting the gods and goddesses of this forest from elephants etc. by giving me the lion nature. At this time, whichever living being first comes into my sight becomes my food. This cow has made an unauthorized attempt to enter this protected forest and has come in front of me at the time of my meal, hence I will satisfy my hunger by eating it. Leave behind your shame and guilt and return back.

But the sorrowful Dilip, seeing Nandini writhing with fear and pain, with tears flowing from her eyes, and remembering her suckling calf, who was eagerly waiting for its mother that evening, melted with compassion.

Got up. Nandini's motherhood seemed more valuable to him than his own life and he prayed to the lion to satisfy his hunger by eating her body and leaving Nandini as a child.

The lion ridiculed this amazing proposal of the king and said - Rajan! You are Chakravarti Samrat. You can please the Guru by giving crores of milch cows in exchange for Nandini. You are still young, an emperor who has sacrificed his life for this insignificant creature, disregarding his healthy and beautiful body and youth.

Looks like you have lost your sanity. Even if you have a vow to be kind to living beings, even today if I eat you in exchange for this cow, then after your death only this cow will be saved from its troubles, and if you remain alive, then like your father, the entire people will be saved from continuous troubles. Will keep protecting from
