Brahmaji started saying, O Narad! The fast of Vijaya Ekadashi destroys old and new sins. To date, I have not told the method of this Vijaya Ekadashi to anyone. It bestows victory on all human beings. In Treta Yuga, when Maryada Purushottam Shri Ramchandraji went into exile for fourteen years, he started living in Panchavati along with Shri Lakshman and Sitaji. While roaming around, when he reached the dying Jatayu, Jatayu narrated to him the story of Sitaji and went to heaven. After going a little further, he became friends with Sugriva and killed Bali. Hanumanji went to Lanka and found Sitaji and described to her the friendship of Shri Ramchandraji and Sugriva. Returning from there, Hanumanji came to Lord Ram and told him all the news.
Shri Ramchandraji along with the monkey army left Sugriva's property for Lanka. When Shri Ramchandraji reached the shore from the sea, he saw the bottomless sea full of crocodiles, etc., and asked Lakshmanji how will we cross this sea.
Shri Lakshman said, O Puran Purushottam, you are the original man, you know everything. A sage named Vakdalabhya lives on Kumari Island, half a yojana away from here. He has seen many Brahmas, you go to him and ask for the solution. Hearing such words of Lakshmanji, Shri Ramachandra went to Vakdalabhya Rishi and sat down after listening to him.
The sage also considered him to be the Puran Purushottam in human form and asked him, O Ram! How did you come? Ramchandraji started saying, O Rishi! I have come here with my army and am going to Lanka to conquer the demons. Please tell me some way to cross the sea. This is why I have come to you.
Vakdalabhya sage said, O Ram! By observing a good fast on the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month, you will definitely win, and you will also definitely cross the ocean.
The method of this fast is to make a pot of gold, silver, copper, or clay on the day of Dashami. Fill that pitcher with water place five Pallavas and install it on the altar. Place satanja below that pitcher and barley on top. Install the golden idol of Lord Shri Narayan on it. On the day of Ekadashi, after taking a bath, worship God with incense, lamp, naivedya, coconut, etc.
After that, spend the day sitting in front of the pitcher and stay awake at night by sitting in the same manner. On the day of Dwadashi, after retiring from daily routine, give that pitcher to a Brahmin. Hey Ram! If you also observe this fast along with the generals, you will be victorious. Shri Ramchandraji observed this fast as per the advice of the sage and with its effect, he gained victory over the demons.
So oh king! Whoever observes this fast will be victorious in both worlds. Shri Brahmaji had told Naradji that O son! Whoever reads or listens to the greatness of this fast gets the fruits of Vajpayee Yagya.

Vijaya Ekadashi puja method
1. Vijaya Ekadashi Day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
2. On this day, wake up in the morning in Brahma Muhurta and take a bath.
3. Wear yellow or red colored clothes.
4. Clean the puja temple thoroughly. Then place seven grains on it.
5. After this, install the Kalash there. Then install the idol of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
6. Worship Lord Vishnu with fruits, flowers, lamps, sandalwood, and basil.
7. After this, perform the Aarti of Lord Vishnu. Read or listen to the Vrat Katha.
8. Stay awake at night by chanting the name of Shri Hari.
9. Next day, give food and charity Dakshina to the Brahmins.
10. Do cow service, feed the cows, and provide straw ration for them in the cowshed.
What to do and what not to do on Vijaya Ekadashi
Do not eat tamasic food on this day. Start the day by meditating with Lord Vishnu. On this day, keep your mind focused on Lord Vishnu as much as possible. If your health is not good then do not fast. Only follow the rules of fasting. Do not eat rice and heavy food on the day of Ekadashi. Worship at night on the day of Vijaya Ekadashi has special significance.
