Holi 2024: The tradition of Holika Dahan started with Erich

A town named Erich, located about 82 kilometers from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, is the place where devotee Prahlad was burnt to death by his aunt Holika. According to belief, Erch is the Ericachch mentioned in the Puranas, which was the capital of Hiranyakashipu. Erch was also known as Prahlad City. Many such shreds of evidence are found here, which shows that this place is related to Hirayankshipu, Holika, and devotee Prahlad.
Holika idol
An idol has been found during excavations in Eruch, which according to local belief is of Holika. This idol has the figure of a woman with an infant in her lap. Local people believe that this idol of Holika and devotee Prahlad was made and is five thousand years old. Presently this statue has been installed at the place where Holika was actually burnt. Special worship is done here on Tuesday.
Fire pit
There is also a fire pit here, in which it is said that Holika tried to burn Prahlad. There is a local belief that on the day of Holi, one's wishes are fulfilled by bowing to this pond and rubbing one's nose there. Local people say that this has happened to many people.
Prahlad Kund or Prahlad Dayo
There is a hill near Erich, which is called Dhikachal. Betwa River flows near it. It is believed that this is the hill from where devotee Prahlad was thrown into the Betwa river by Hiranyakashipu. It is well known that even this did not happen to devotee Prahlad. The part of the river in which an attempt was made to drown devotee Prahlad. It is called Prahlad Kund or Prahlad Dayu. Local people say that the water of this pond does not dry up. Even if there is no water in the Betwa River.
Holika is worshiped
There are different beliefs regarding Holika in India. There is a local belief that Holika protects the earth. That's why neither fire could burn Erich nor did it drown in the flood of Betwa River. Local women still do not participate in Holika Dahan. He believes that Holika is like a daughter to Erich.
