Margashirsha month and worship of Mother Katyayani by Gopis

As you all know the beginning of Margashirsha month is coming, and the first Paksha of Margashirsha month is going on, Margashirsha month has special significance in Brajmandal region and for all Krishna devotees, know why.

According to Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran:-

There is an article in Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran that in the month of Kartik, Gopis kept fast by worshiping Goddess Katyayani to get Lord Shri Krishna as their husband. To fulfill his wish, Lord Shri Krishna created Maharas on Sharad Purnima and since that time women especially unmarried girls, have observed this fast and worshiped Maa Katyayani to get a husband like Kanha.

Maa Katyayani is worshiped on the sixth day of Navratri, but apart from this, the method of worshiping Maa Katyayani for the entire month in Margashirsha, the first month of Hemant season, has been explained in Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran. Shri Maa Katyayani Devi is present in the form of a very ancient Siddhapeeth situated in Radhabagh near Shri Yamuna in Shridham Vrindavan, the holy sacred playground of Lord Nandanandan Shri Krishnachandra. Bhagwati Devi's hair had fallen in Sridham Vrindavan, the playground of Lord Shri Krishna, the proof of this is found in almost all the scriptures.

“Vraje Katyayani Para” i.e. Brahmashakti Mahamaya is famous by the name of Shri Mata Katyayani in the Peeth located in Vrindavan. Shri Katyayani Peeth located in Vrindavan is one of the most ancient Siddhpeeth among the unknown 108 and known 51 Peethas of India. Devarshi Shri Vedvyas ji has mentioned this in the twenty-second chapter of the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagwat-

Katyayani Mahamaye Mahayoginyadhishwari.

Nandagopsutam Devi Pati me Kuru Te Namah:॥

कात्यायनि महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरि।

नन्दगोपसुतं देवि पतिं मे कुरु ते नम:॥

Hey Katyayani! O great mother! Hey Mahayogini! Hey Adheeshwari! O Goddess! Make Nand Gop's son our husband, we worship and worship you. To get Lord Krishna as her husband, the Gopis of Braj worshiped Mother Katyayani on the banks of Kalindi-Yamuna.

Goddess Katyayani is revered as the presiding deity of Brajmandal. By worshiping her, one attains the supreme position. By worshiping the Mother, one easily attains all the four fruits of wealth, religion, lust, and salvation. The form of Mother Katyayani is very divine and shining like gold. She sits on her favorite vehicle, a lion.

His four arms give boons to the devotees, one of his hands is in Abhaya Mudra, the other hand is in Varad Mudra and the other hand holds a sword and a lotus flower. Girls whose marriage is getting delayed must worship Mother Katyayani.

To meditate on the Mother Goddess, chant the following mantras...

“Chandrahasojwalkara Shardulvarvahana!

Katyayani Shubham Daghaddevi Danavghatini "

Om Katyayanyai Namah

“चन्द्रहासोज्वलकरा शार्दूलवरवाहना !

कात्यायनी शुभं दघाद्देवी दानवघातिनी "

ॐ कात्यायन्यै नम:

Worship of Mother Katyayani by Gopis

In the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran, there is a description of the Gopis of Braj worshiping and observing the fast of Goddess Katyayani with the aim of attaining Shri Krishna. The essence of this story is that the Gopis of Braj were fascinated by Yogeshwar Shri Krishna and wanted to have him as their husband. When they gathered on the banks of Yamuna, Vrindadevi appeared before them in the form of an ascetic. He advised the Gopis to worship Goddess Katyayani.

He asked the Gopis to observe fast for the whole month in the first month of the Hemant season, Margashirsha [Agahan], in which only fruits are eaten. Gopis daily take a bath in Yamuna before sunrise, chanting the name of Shri Krishna in Brahma muhurta. She made an idol of Goddess Katyayani from sand and started offering fruits, flowers, incense sticks, and offerings to her. In this way, the girls of Braj started worshiping Jagadamba as per rituals.

Katyayani mantra

Gopis started chanting this mantra after worshiping Mother Katyayani.

Om Katyayani Mahamaye Mahayoginyadhishwari

Nandagopasutan Devi Pati Mein Kuruten Namah:

ऊं कात्यायनी महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरी

नंदगोपसुतं देवि पति में कुरुतें नम:

Hey Katyayani! Mahamaya! Make Shri Krishna, son of Nand Gop, our husband. We salute you.

This mantra is the fourth verse of the 22nd chapter of the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran. It is said that the wishes of the Gopis were fulfilled by the fasting rituals of Goddess Katyayani. Lord Shri Krishna had created Maharaas on the full moon night to fulfill his wish, after which this ritual became a means for girls to get the groom of their choice. Even today, girls perform this ritual with great devotion to get a husband as per their wishes.

Restoration of Katyayani Peetha

The Shaktipeeth of Katyayani Mata, worshiped by the Gopis of Vraj in Dwaparayuga, disappeared in Kaliyuga. Swami Kesavananda came to Vrindavan with the inspiration of Mother Bhavani and discovered this place with his divine vision. Swamiji built a huge temple in Radhabag. In the year 1923, the idol of Maa Katyayani was installed on the day of Maghi Purnima. Along with this, Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya were also established.
