Rishi Panchami or Bhadrapada is celebrated on the day of Shukla Panchami i.e. two days after Hartalika Teej and one day after Ganesh Chaturthi.
Rishi Panchami is a special fast observed by women to pay respect to the Sapt Rishis (seven sages) and to purify themselves from the impurities caused during women's menstruation.
Rishi Panchami-Why is Shri Rishi Panchami celebrated:-
Purity is given the highest priority according to Hinduism and there are strict guidelines to maintain the body and soul pure. In Hinduism, women are considered impure during menstruation and hence during this period, women are not allowed to cook in the kitchen or participate in any religious activities. Neglecting these guidelines increases menstrual dysfunction. To get rid of Rajswala Dosha, it is advised to observe Rishi Panchami fast. Rishi Panchami is more popular among Nepalese Hindus. In some places, the three-day Hartalika Teej fast ends on Rishi Panchami.

Rishi Panchami-How to perform Shri Rishi Panchami Puja:-
On the day of Rishi Panchami, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Make a square-shaped mandala using turmeric, kumkum, and roli at a clean place in your house. Install the idol of Sapt Rishi on the board. Pour pure water and Panchamrit over the picture. Treat them with sandalwood. Identify the garland of flowers and offer flowers to Saptarishi. Make them wear the sacred thread (Yajnopavita). Then offer white clothes. Also offer them fruits, sweets, etc. Keep incense etc. at that place. In many areas, this puja process is seen near the river bank or pond. After this puja, women do not consume grains. Rather, they consume a special kind of rice on the day of Rishi Panchami.
Rishi Panchami- Worship Shri Rishi Panchami like this:-
On this divine day, it is very important to purify in the nearby holy river.
After bathing in the river, Panchamrit should be offered to the idols of Sapta Rishis.
After this, apply sandalwood and vermilion tilak on them.
Offer flowers, sweets, food items, fragrant incense, lamps, etc. to the Saptarishis.
Along with chanting mantras, worship them by wearing white clothes, Yagyopavits and Naivedya.
It is very important to listen to the folktales during Rishi Panchami Vrat by worshiping these Sapta Rishis with complete sacred practices.

Rishi Panchami-Importance of Shri Rishi Panchami:-
In this fast, people express respect, and gratitude and remember the great deeds of those ancient sages who dedicated their lives to the welfare of society. This fast destroys sins and gives results. If it is done by a proper set of traditional rituals. Rishi Panchami festival forms an important basis for fasting and reverence is gratitude, dedication, and respect towards the sages.
Rishi Panchami- Fast story of Shri Rishi Panchami:-
Once upon a time, a Brahmin named Uttak lived with his wife in a kingdom. There was a son and a daughter in his family. The Brahmin married his daughter in a good and reputed Brahmin family. But as time passed, the girl's husband died prematurely and she became a widow, and hence returned to her father's house. Right in the middle, the girl's entire body was covered with insects. After seeing her infected body, they were overcome with grief and took their daughter to Sage Uttaka to find out what had happened to their daughter.

Sage Uttaka told them how he was again reborn as a human being. He told Kanya everything about his past life. The sage informed his parents about the details of the girl's first birth. And said that the girl was a human being in her previous birth. She further said that even after menstruation, she had touched household utensils, etc. due to which she is facing all these pains. Due to this sin committed unknowingly, his entire body was infested with insects.
According to ancient texts, a girl or woman cannot be a part of the puja during her menstrual period (Rajaswala or Mahavari). But he did not pay attention to it and he had to suffer the punishment anyway.
Conclusion:-
At last, the sage concluded that if this girl worships Rishi Panchami and asks for forgiveness with all her heart and devotion. He will soon be liberated from his sins. In this way, by observing fast and devotion, his daughter was freed from her past sins.
