The context of Ramayana is prevalent regarding this form of Hanuman. According to the legend, Ahiravan had created an illusion to help Ravana in the battle between Rama and Ravana. Due to this illusion, the entire army of Ram ji was put to sleep. After this Ahiravana abducted Rama and Lakshmana and went to Hades. To deal with this difficult situation, Rama's army remembered Hanuman ji.
Hanuman ji went to Hades in search of Lord Shri Ram and Lakshmana. When Hanuman ji reached Patal Lok, he got his son Makardhwaj. Hanuman fought with his son Makardhwaja in this war and defeated him. After this he reached the palace of Patalpuri. He saw there that Rama and Lakshmana were being held hostage. Hanuman started planning to rescue Lord Rama and Lakshmana from there. He saw that five lamps were burning in the four directions of the palace and preparations were on to sacrifice Rama and Lakshmana in front of Maa Bhavani.
According to the context, to put an end to Ahiravan, it was necessary that all the five lamps should be extinguished simultaneously. To overcome this situation, Hanuman ji took the form of Panchmukhi.
Taking the form of Panchmukhi, he took this Panchmukhi avatar as Varaha Mukha in the North direction, Narasimha Mukha in the South, Garuda Mukha in the West, which is considered to be devotional, troublesome, obstructive and obstructive, Hayagriva Mukha towards the sky and Hanuman Mukha in the East. All the lamps were extinguished simultaneously. This form of Hanuman ji was very divine.
